Which Is Better Speedlight’s or Studio Lights?

One of the first factors photographers must consider before buying lights is whether or not thE lights need to be portable. Studio-based photographers are going to purchase several different lighting systems as opposed to other photographers that can easily carry the lighting equipment from an electrical outlet to the next.

Speedlight’s or flash are deemed the best on-site photography lighting due to their portability. With an independent wireless flash system, Speedlight’s serve the same purpose as studio strobes, however, Speedlight’s aren’t perfect though. They do not stretch as far as studio lights or light stands, the light is not as powerful and they can take more time to get ready for the next flash of light.

Studio style lights are larger, yet with battery packs, many of them can be utilized in the studio or at another location. Continuous is notably larger than Speedlight’s since they come along with packing, the actual light, many require separate battery packs to bring along too.

What’s the Difference Between Strobe Lighting and Continuous Lighting?

For photographers heavily considering investing in studio-style lights, there is one more decision to be made. Strobe or continuous lighting? A strobe light is designed with a traditional camera flash and a fast burst of light and continuous lights remain on all the time.

Since strobe lights are only discharging out light for a quick burst, they are usually more powerful than continuous lights. When capturing portraits, strobe lighting will also make a subtle contrast in the subject’s eyes as the burst of light will not enlarge the pupils larger, allowing more of the iris color to be displayed image.

Continuous lights are less powerful, however, they are affordable and necessary if photographers are shooting videos rather than still images. For amateurs, continuous lights are usually easier to operate as they see the light in real-time, instead of making adjustments every time they take a picture.
